Thailand Sustainability Investment
Responsible investment pays attention to environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors in the investment decision-making process. The concept has been steadily promoted and received widespread interest from global investors. It is significant that SET has been developing relevant products and services to meet investors’ demand based on responsible investment policies.
The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) continues to underline its commitment to develop Thai listed firms’ quality towards sustainable growth by announcing the Thailand Sustainability Investment (THSI) 2016 list, showcasing listed companies with outstanding performance on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) aspects from its annual sustainability assessment
To pass sustainability assessment, each participating firm must achieve scores at least 50 percent in economic, social and environmental dimensions and further meet qualifications criteria. This year, additional criteria embrace business performance and governance aspect related to ESG. The distinguished panel of judges consisted of renowned professionals on corporate governance and corporate social responsibility as well as related organizations in the capital market.
For the 2017 list, 65 companies passed the set assessment criteria consisting of 58 listed companies on SET and seven on Market for Alternative Investment (mai), with the total market capitalization of THB 9.10 trillion (Approx. USD 267.65 billion), or 52.85 percent of the combined SET and mai market capitalization of THB 17.22 trillion. Average dividend yield for stocks in THSI list is 3.63 percent which outperforms SET overall average dividend yield of 3.44 percent, as of October 10, 2017.
In the 2017 list, the industry groups with highest number of firms in THSI are: 13 firms in Resources, 12 firms in Industrials and eight firms in Property & Construction industry groups.
