SET holds 21st SET Youth Music Competition to develop young musical talents

BANGKOK, September 6, 2018 - The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), in 
collaboration with the College of Music, Mahidol University, organizes the 21st
"SET Youth Music Competition" to select the most talented musicians among youth
of all levels, with total prizes worth more than THB 1.8 million (Approx. 55,000
USD). This competition provides a unique opportunity for young talents across
the country to enhance their musical abilities, so as to enhance quality of

SET Senior Executive Vice President Krisada Sektrakul said that SET's role is 
not only to support businesses and investors towards sustainable growth, but
also to make a positive contribution to the society, in accordance with SET's
vision ''To Make the Capital Market Work for Everyone'. Realizing benefits of
music in developing human resources for the society in terms of personality,
emotion and thinking process, SET has joined hands with the College of Music of
Mahidol University to continuously hold the SET Youth Music Competition since
2004 to improve the quality of life for youth, families and the society.

Narong Prangcharoen, Dean of the College of Music, Mahidol University, said that
the competition does not focus on winning as much as on unity. This year the
stage continues to welcome the showcases of all kinds of non-electric musical
instruments, aiming to nurture music education and profession with fruitful
results as many youths from this stage have achieved success at international
levels. We are really thankful to SET for all the supports.

Over the past two decades, over 10,000 youths across the country have 
participated in the competition with more than 3,000 talented students won
awards from this stage. In addition, many of them have managed to become
professional musicians at national and international levels.

The contestants who have successfully brought fame to the country include 
Chinnwat Temkumkwan, a classical guitarist winning a 1st runner-up title from
Singapore International Guitar Festival & Competition 2016, Tontrakul Kaewyong,
a Pong Lang musician winning the 1st prize in folk instruments category from the
12th OSAKA international Music Competition, Pijarin Wiriyasakdakul, the singer
wining the 1st runner-up title from vocal music category from the 17th  OSAKA
international Music Competition, and Chaithawat Atipophai, a pianist winning the
 1st runner-up title from the 16th Osaka International Music Competition.

The SET Youth Music Competition is categorized into four levels: primary school,
junior high school, senior high school, and undergraduate education. Young
talents who are interested in joining the contest can submit their works from
now until October 2, 2018. Semi-final competition will be held during November
10-11, and the final round will be held on December 9, 2018.
